    I believe that Sammy made the right choice in quitting, through the story you get a feeling that Sammy does not enjoy working at his job. The way he describes the customers as sheep, he is complaining and nitpicking because he no long wish to work and the girls gave him a reason to quit. I feel as if Sammy would quit unless he could find a reason to do so. He goes on to defend the girls because they gave him the ability to quit and they personify the life he wants to live. Sammy is not wealthy, he comes from a working-class family who helped him get his job at the A&P. He lives in a small town and his action of quitting would spread around making it harder for him to get a job in town. So, Sammy will have to travel outside of town to find a job now.
