few challenging aspects of social media but when it all comes together, I would say the biggest challenge is competition. As positive as social media is, it is constantly creating competition between people. One example is that social media puts pressure on people for the way they look. Social media has put this ideal image of people and people are always trying to live up to this image, which can create personal issues. Another example is bullying, which is constantly happening because of social media. People aren’t afraid to say hurtful things when they are behind a screen and they have an easy way of showing this through social media sites. Another thing is you have to make sure you separate the personal from the professional information. In the blog by Evan LePage, “A Brand of One: On Social Media Branding For Professionals” I have learned that “you need to be aware of this whether your existing profiles on each social network are public”. Keep things private, and if you want to use social media for a professional purpose, make a separate profile. I really enjoyed this class because of multiple reasons. When I signed up for the class I expected it to be only about social media. Throughout the course I learned more about social media but even more about how to use social media in a professional matter, which I have wanted to learn about. I really enjoyed the content in the class every week. Most people don’t look forward to doing homework assignments but with…

the social responsibility stage of media literacy development. “Recognizing that there are some actions an individual can take to make a constructive impact on society” (Potter 2014). This is one of the components to being in the social responsibility stage that I would like to achieve. Pushing myself to this point would mean making myself aware of the media that I am exposing myself to, analyzing the data so that I clearly understand its impact on society, and coming to the realization that I,…

Moving Target Defense The current cybersecurity environment is based around a static defense that has been employed for the past few years to protect information systems (See Figure 6). Unfortunately, this cybersecurity paradigm is not effective against current and future cyber threats. According to Zheng (2014), the weakness of this cybersecurity approach is its passive and reactive nature towards safeguarding information systems. Additionally, this method also allows threat actors the time…

Transistors control a large current flowing through a semiconductor with the use of a small current. The creation of transistors was made possible by the Pauli exclusion principle, which states that each electron has a unique set of quantum numbers, and only two electrons can occupy the same orbital. Knowledge of the exclusion principle allowed developers like Shockley, Van Vleck, and Bardeen to create the transistor with semiconductors, which also rely heavily on quantum mechanics (they only…

Science is intuitive. The tallest hill can be the shortest mountain. It is through our intuition that we come to know that the big ones are mountains and the little ones are hills. In some ways, the same is true for science. Science encompasses everything ranging from chemistry to archaeology, microbiology to astronomy. There are so many different aspects to science that it is hard to boil down to one concrete and concise definition. Science is involved with the study of the natural world. This…

Introduction: Quantum physics, also known as quantum mechanics, is the branch of physics that uses quantum theory to predict and describe the properties of a physical system. While chemistry is the science of composition, properties, structures, and reactions of matter; it is also known as the ‘central science’. While reading the book Alice in Quantumland by Robert Gilmore, one is able to link the two together, causing a curiosity to learn more. It is amazing to see how the two correlate and…

In the academic library that I chose to examine, finding the reference desk is no easy task for the unfamiliar patron. With three major entrances and six floors to navigate, this library is an epitome of what most libraries would strive to have: boundless space for patrons and a vast, growing collection. The patron, however, could easily take one glance at this gargantuan building and easily become overwhelmed, despite the services that this one building contains, such as being combined with…

When writing a paper for any class a writer would take in their life they will encounter having to do research. Finding information for a topic is not as simple as searching a topic and finding the easiest available. A great deal of information about the Mauro family, and how such families were depicted during this time, is seen in this photograph and its’ caption. The photo caption notes “all work except the two boys against the wall” , examination of the two figures shows an older brother cradling a sleeping child, most likely his younger brother, and not two boys avoiding work.
