    Benzenethiol Ligand Study

In this study, the effect of benzenethiol ligand on CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots was investigated. Conventional long-chain oleic acid (OA) and trioctylphosphine (TOP) capping ligands were partially replaced by short benzenethiol ligands, and the improvement in the luminescence performance was observed in quantum dot light emitting diodes (QD-LED). Approximately 1.8 fold improvement was achieved for both the maximum luminance and maximum current efficiency for the QD-LEDs fabricated with bezenethiol ligand QDs. The turn-on voltage was reduced by ∼0.6 V by shifting the energy level of QDs with the benzenethiol ligands when compared to the conventional OA and TOP ligands. The mobility of the QD film approximately doubled to 2.42 x 10-5 cm2/V·S…

Transistors control a large current flowing through a semiconductor with the use of a small current. The creation of transistors was made possible by the Pauli exclusion principle, which states that each electron has a unique set of quantum numbers, and only two electrons can occupy the same orbital. Knowledge of the exclusion principle allowed developers like Shockley, Van Vleck, and Bardeen to create the transistor with semiconductors, which also rely heavily on quantum mechanics (they only…

The term photoluminescence by definition can be refered to as a molecule or atom which absorbs electromagnetic energy and in turn, emits light. In quantum mechanics, it is where excitation to a higher energy state occurs, which then returns to a lower energy state, together with the emission of a photon. According to Seitz (2006) found in the Credo referencing database, “Photoluminescence excitation spectra are determined by measuring emission intensity at a fixed wavelength while varying the…

Introduction: Quantum physics, also known as quantum mechanics, is the branch of physics that uses quantum theory to predict and describe the properties of a physical system. While chemistry is the science of composition, properties, structures, and reactions of matter; it is also known as the ‘central science’. While reading the book Alice in Quantumland by Robert Gilmore, one is able to link the two together, causing a curiosity to learn more. It is amazing to see how the two correlate and…

To address the physics behind observed anomalous behavior of Hc2 (T), Gurevich, and Gloubov and Koshelov theory was developed. The unique benefit of this approach is that the details of complex Fermi surface of MgB2 is not necessary to calculate Hc2 [132]. The impurity scattering is accounted by the nature of normal state electronic diffusivities and which are controlled by their respective intraband scattering rates in the and π bands, and interband scattering rates , , and…

inorganic complexes in solution. The UV-Vis spectra have broad features that are of limited use for sample identification but are very useful for quantitative measurements. The concentration of an analyte in solution can be determined by measuring the absorbance at some wavelength and applying the Beer-Lambert Law. Since the UV-Vis range spans the range of human visual acuity of approximately 400 - 750 nm, UV-Vis spectroscopy is useful to characterize the absorption, transmission, and…

Introduction Quantum dots (Q-Dots) is very small semiconductor particles that means it can be either conductors or resist electricity depending on the temperature and purity of the semiconductor. Q-dots range in size from 2-10 nm, so because of their small size, quantum mechanics governs the physics of the particles. The synthesis Q-Dots were first studied in 1982 by Efros and Ekimov, and then many developments have reported the synthesis of semiconductor nanoparticles.1 Q-Dots have unique…

Albert Einstein said, “No object can travel faster than the speed of light.” However, will the temperature change the brightness of light? The researcher will perform the test three different times. Each test will take one glow stick from the freezer, one from the refrigerator, one in boiling water, and one from the counter and break the glow stick to make it glow. The researcher will then time the length of time it takes for the glow stick to turn off. At the conclusion of the experiment, the…

takes place. Barrier penetration can be explained from Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle: If we were to say a particle cannot enter a barrier, we would actually say this particle is not there, i.e. its position uncertainty is Δx = 0 in the barrier, but, there is no such thing as Δx = 0 As Δx/Δpx ≠ 0 but ≥ ℏ/2 (2.9) We already know there is no Δ px = 0 either in nature, things are never at rest completely, they have always some kinetic energy…
