    The purpose of this research that is discussed in the article is to elaborate on the effects the Burmese python could have on the surrounding environments. An introduction of invasive species to a new land is one of the main factors that can negatively affect the environment. The Burmese python is negatively affecting the Everglades National park by decreasing many of the mammal populations. The scientists’ experiment is supposed to support the conclusion of how the Burmese python is affecting the environment. One of the economic effects that came from the invasive species is the fact that our government is spending money to try and fix the python problem. The authors write, “Invasive species management exceeds $120 billion annually.” The government is spending a lot of money on a problem that should have never existed. Dorcas and the other scientists also want to focus on the future by trying to predict the effects the Burmese pythons will have on the environment in the long run. The article uses the idea of the IMRAD structure which stands for introduction, methods, results, and discussion; however, the structure is slightly out of order. The first paragraph represents the abstract, but the articles do not specifically address the paragraph as the abstract. Nevertheless, after reading the paragraph anyone would be able to tell it is the abstract because it summarizes the entire article in a short paragraph.
