Prehistoric times have been a mystery for modern humans for centuries. These times span from the formation of the Earth, about 4.5 billion years ago, all the way to the Iron Age, which ended about 3,200 years ago. This paper will be discussing the Precambrian times first, due to it being the oldest period in Earth's history. The next paragraph will talk about the Phanerozoic eon, which contained the first forms of life on Earth. The last paragraph will be about the most recent period, which has…
The Cambrian explosion is referred to as “Biological Big Bang” (Science News) or “Evolution’s Big Bang” (Science) (Levinton, J. S.1992), because of the unexpectedness presence of animal life in the Cambrian. Figures have it that it started back 542 million years ago and terminated approximately 40 million years later. This era is marked by the emerging of profuse skeletonized metazoans, an abrupt intensification in biodiversity and the appearance of most modern lives (Von Bloh 18). Animals that…
Slide 1: Hi Everyone, I’ll be covering Sperry Glacier in Glacier National Park as my site location for the Dynamic Geologic Setting Project. Location: The Sperry Glacier is located in northwest Montana within Glacier National Park. The image on the left gives you some context with respect to the regional location. It is a small cirque glacier of about .8 square km and an average depth of 35 meters on the North slope of gunsight mountain. The area and depth are steadily decreasing however.…
Recombinant DNA is genetically engineered DNA that is formed by splicing fragments of DNA. Organismal cloning is the artificial creation of a new organism that is genetically identical to its counterpart. DNA cloning is a recombinant DNA technique where cDNAs and fragments of genomic DNA are inserted into a cloning vector and maintained during growth of the host cells. Vector is an agent that transfers genetic material into a cell or organism. Restriction enzymes are bacterial enzymes that find…
