Towns Mr. Homo Class Period 1 2018 March 7 Hard Life: It was the best of times; it was the worst of times Throughout the time period of one's life, there may be, ordinarily, a discovered issue with money and financial situations. Consequently, you may find these types of issues with yourself or maybe even someone that you know. Charles Dickens himself had financial issues all throughout his childhood, resulting in a childhood that would not be as enjoyable as mine or yours today. During this time period, Dickens says “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times”(Dickens, 1859). You could imagine how depressing of a time period this must have been for him to have undergone while his father was in and out of a debtors prison due to the lack of income he was receiving. This drove the inspiration for him to continue on a road to succeed in life. As a young child, Dickens was in a constant switch between many schools, therefore, he was never able to stay in a single school because of his father being constantly put in jail due to being in debt. In the midst of all this, Dickens was forced to begin working at Warren’s Blacking Factory, a shoe-dyeing factory. Dickens and his family had also lost their home due to a lack of payment towards bills and such things. Each time that Dickens had returned to his studies, he was pulled back into the workforce due to the families lack of income.
