A poverty trap is essentially a scenario in a number of countries in which a cyclical trap exists that keeps the poorest individuals in the country poor due to a "set of self-reinforcing mechanisms". In other words, the poorest individuals in these countries remain poor despite rising GDP and a rising wealth gap, and per-capita income remains stagnant for years. This is a serious issue because, for example, per capita income in a country that was $1500 50 years ago is still $1500 today. Individuals that are in the poorest percentage of the population then accordingly suffer from a number of issues including malnutrition, less education, and poor living conditions. The irony of this situation is that I would predict that the richest continue…

Is social welfare a “poverty trap” or a “safety net”? Social welfare in the United States has been a hotly debated topic, ever since 1776. I am sure it goes further back but I will stick with 1776. Benjamin Franklin has at one time, spoken about how he felt about social welfare. According to Franklin, “…I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means.—I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it.…

examining it. Also the incarceration rate has been giving us hints on why to examine it because they have been so high. Looking at the production itself, something that made the set unique was the use of trap doors in various situations throughout the performance. For example when Christopher found the letters from his mother, he pulled the box out of a trap door on the floor of the stage. Also at the end of the play, the puppy Christopher’s dad got him went down a trap door to exit the stage. Similar to the trap doors, the…

Labyrinth is a play written by Beth Steel. It was shown at the Hampstead Theatre in London. The first thing I encountered when I entered the theatre was the stage. It was in the center of the theater, which makes it entertaining for the audience to enjoy it at any side. This stage design is defined as traverse. Another aspect I encountered in the performance were the props and how limited it was. Props that they used include nation’s flags, the trap and steel doors, and the lighting. The…
