anxiously waiting to see the buzzer go off and someone is the winner. This time it is different because my team is going into another over time. If you’ve ever played basketball and the other team and your team are tied, you know what it feels like to be under pressure. You’re both trying to play better than the other and it’s chaos at that point. In order to overcome this obstacle I would have to play even harder when I know we’re down. This obstacle would change me because I didn’t want to lose; I would learn that in order to win, I would have to endure. About halfway into the second overtime were both scoring back and forth trying to win and it seems like a piece of cake until someone decides to take the lead. Sweat dripping down my face, hearing my shoes trampling across the floor, then down to the basket where the magic happens. When I start scoring more and…

What is the hardest decision you have made in the past two years? Have you ever felt terrible for doing something good for yourself? When I was 16 years old I changed summer traveling softball teams to make myself better so that I could play softball in college. I had played on the team that I was leaving for 9 years and my dad had started the team and we named it the Beatrice Drillers. I loved playing with that team because they were all my friends and I had played with them for so long. The…

all, the toys you played with are now put away, most likely never to be used again. Of course, you don’t care. That creepy doll with those blinking eyes could be gone forever and you would probably be scared if you ever saw it again. But deep down there's that one toy we all wish we could play with again and not be looked upon as mentally ill. For me, that's Legos. Those fantastic little blocks of all shapes and sizes fueled my imagination as a young boy, and were by far the best toy ever…

I completley agree with allowing children having their own free time to engage in imaginative and creative play versus more organized activities. Children already participate in a structured organized enviorment at school for most of their day. Children have the capibility of developing critical thinking and problem-solving solutions on their own, if allowed. As a society we already have full days with jobs, homes to take care of and community functions. If we can allow our children to have…

This years theme for Augustana “Time to Play” correlates well with the choice of Footloose as this years play. There are a couple things that link the two of these things together including the university institution itself and new perspectives. Often within the university setting we are locked into the academic side with not too much time for fun between assignments, readings and studying, especially where the emphasis is put on academics rather than fun. Often we hear that at university…

My favorite hobby is playing softball during school ball and ASA ball. You can learn to play softball by joining a team and practicing on your free time. Softball can be a difficult sport if you don’t listen; you’re not going to know what to do if you don’t pay attention. When you play, you want to be able to play multiple postitions so that you don’t have to sit the bench. I was taught to play all positions but my main posistioins are shortstop and centerfield; if you are fast you will play one…

TIME-OUT FROM REALITY is a character driven drama. The plot has merit. The idea of a young foster girl trying to rehab her uncle so that she can live with him is very appealing. It’s always nice to see how an adult character can change through the eyes of a child. The story explores themes about forgiveness, family, and healing. The goal is clear and the stakes are personal. The story is driven also by the inner emotional needs of the protagonist, Izzy, just as much as her external goal.…

“Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.” Kay Redfield Jamison believes that children need time to play and have fun because one day they may not be able to. I believe that Jamison thinks that you need to have time to play because they need to have fun and just have free time. America’s gift to my generation is freedom to do extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities are America’s gift to my generation. I think this because when you…

As I lie on my bed, I stare at the sheets I had picked out. At the time I bought them, they had a very intriguing color but had now become sad, seldomly washed, and just fading away. Therefore every time I look at them I think about what they looked like before. I started wondering what it would be like to feel all of the pressure of the game clock. The clock that provides all of the suspense by giving a very ominous sound. The rallying offense drives down the field to score while the clock…
