The chain mail also incorporated mittens, which had chain mail on the back of them and leather gloves on the inside to better hold reins and weapons, and a hood with an attached ventail to protect the throat (Hanley). The surcoat was placed on top of all the armor and was a useful way to display the knight’s coat of arms, which was helpful since it was hard to distinguish knights when they put their helmets on (Hanley). The sword belt, which allowed the knight to carry his sword without actually holding it in his hand, went around his waist on the left side so the sword could be drawn with the right hand (Hanley). An additional padded cap was then placed on the knight’s head to keep the helmet in place (Hanley). The helmet was the last piece of armor to be placed on the knight. Some knights used the old-fashioned nasal helms however, many knights used the great helm (Hanley). Because the armor consisted of so many pieces and was physically impossible to put on by oneself, other people were required to help the knight get dressed (Hanley). It took generally about twenty minutes for a knight to get armed and about half an hour for everything to be ready and right (Hanley). Armor was very expensive and was meant only for the wealthy (Hanley). It was distinctly fitted for each knight because if the armor was too loose or too tight, it would be difficult for the knight to walk or ride or to move in general (Hanley). Because the armor was fairly heavy, it was important for the…

Armor isn’t exactly original, but is the aftermath of a simple yet useful vest called…
I must use caution though, it would seem this petty band is equipped with weapons made of silver, oh dear, Fredrick must really have taken that drinking incident personally to put so much effort into robbing me. I suppose it's time to remind him of why my realm is much larger than his! Sure my quiver is near empty from dealing with a few would be assassins earlier this evening, but twelve arrows will suffice for this ploy of mine. Twelve arrows with my signature blood soaked feathers, inscribed…
