Mo Willems began his career as a writer and animator for the show Sesame Street on PBS. During this time, he earned 6 Emmy Awards for his writing. Willems worked on Sesame Street for nine seasons and created two animated series The Off-Beats for Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network’s Sheep in the Big City. Codename: Kids Next Door was another show where Willems served as head writer at Cartoon Network, it was during this time that Willems began writing and illustrating books for children (Willems, Mo. FAQ). “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” was Willems debut book. It became a New York Times Bestseller and was awarded a Caldecott Honor in 2004 the Carnegie Medal for animated versions of books and the NAPPA Award Winner for animated version of book in 2010 (“Awards and Honors.”). Willems Pigeon Collection and Elephant and Piggie books share some very similar attributes. So a lot of my design work is reductive. I make drawings, then I try to take as many lines out, so that it's at its easiest to copy (Wrenn, Jill Martin). White or one colored backgrounds frequent most pages of these books. Instead of using lines of text Willems uses…

One mistake that I had made and learned from is when my dad and I went to California. When I went to California it was my first time on a plane, and missing school for something other than being sick. It was also my first time trying real seafood that was freshly caught. On the way back the view was amazing, we seen death valley, some type of cavern, and a lot of huge mountains. Even though it seems like fun I should have been at school taking the five tests that I missed in those two days. My…
