Our campus walk around Queens Borough Community College was very interesting. We paid close attention to the plants and trees that grow around the campus. Of the variety of trees and plants, some were either planted or just naturally grows on campus grounds. There are employees that arrive on campus early in the morning and take care of the plants and grass found throughout the entire campus. Plants are widely known as the producer of oxygen that humans breathe in for respiratory purposes.…

I returned to my location on the Lakeshore Nature Preserve Path, just past the Center of Limnology going toward the lakeshore side of campus, on April 6, 2018 from 10:45-11:15 am. It was chilly and very windy that day. It had snowed earlier in the week, so there was still some white visible on the land surrounding the lake. The land straight across the lake looks like a town or city. On both sides of the town, there are many trees lining the shore. The trees look like a mix of pine trees and…
The cedar tree has lived on planet earth for thousands of years, watching the evolution which has taken place to bring us to current day. Standing tall at heights of up to 150 feet, the cedar tree takes pleasure in the beauty of it’s surroundings. The cedars are known for their networks of strong roots which go deep beneath the ground, as well as their strong trunks which protect them from anything mother nature has in mind. Cedar wood has also been extremely useful to the people, and has been…
It makes sense to get your new deck built now before the summer months get here, after all there is little Australians love more than outside living once the temperatures warm up. However, summer also brings bushfire season to many parts of Australia, and this threat is something that should be considered when you're putting your new deck into place. Timber decks have a wonderful natural look, but they become firewood that can ignite your home when the flames get near. Keep these points in mind…
On Saturday November 17th I went and observed the local woods of the Back 40 on the Messiah College campus in Grantham Pennsylvania, the block of land there is actually home to white tail deer and other mammals. The woods change quite drastically as one moves farther from the yellow breaches where deciduous sycamore trees and conifers such as tamaracks are common to a more mature oak forest. The weather leading up to this observation had been relatively wet and rainy, the leaves on the ground…
Bushcraft. Bushcraft can refer to very many things depending on what you want to refer to. It may mean wild camping to some people using things found in the wilderness, to others it may simply refer to lighting fire using a fire steel. Bushcraft can be defined as a form of craft to survive in a raw environment like a desert or a forest where surviving capacity and perseverance will help you. it is just like living some centuries back and making use of the limited resources available to help…
Dogwoods brilliantly dot the wondrous landscape of rural Alabama and Georgia. Home. The very tops of the hardwood trees are invisible in the winter time. I fly so close that I feel that I might brushed up against a few. Their gray tips just blend in with the surroundings. A lone tree limb hangs over the edge viewing the wild beneath its shadow. My prop wash certainly makes them sway as if a strong wind had pushed itself through the Venturi effect of the winding tree line. God’s protection…
