The purpose of this study was to teach the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) to a child diagnosed with Autism. The study states that characteristics defined in Autism Spectrum disorders (ASD) are “impairments in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication as well as restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behaviors, activities and interests” (Jurgens, Anderson & Moore, 2009). In addition, children with Autism show lack of spontaneous make-believe play or social imitative play. The use of PECS was selected for the purpose of teaching functional communication skills. Additionally, this study aimed to provide first-hand data on the effects that the use of PECS can have on different changes in a child’s behavior.…

PECS uses pictures instead of words to encourage children’s communication (Malhotra et al., 2010). The PECS system is relatively simple and inexpensive, does not require any prerequisite skills, and may facilitate speech (Schwartz et al., 1998). PECS aims to teach impromptu communicative skills within a social situation through the use of symbols and pictures (Magiati & Howlin, 2003). Teachers can use picture cards to initiate exchange and communication (Magiati & Howlin, 2003; Schwartz et al.,…
The present study was designed to answer the question; Does the Implementation of a Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) increase positive social behavior among third and fourth grade students during activity (circle time and table top)? Most often YouTube will ask that you are eighteen to allow access to certain videos. This is not really much of a road block as many children under the age of eighteen can easily set up a fake account and say that they are eighteen. Some videos may not have this restriction and allow easy access to violent content. To make better of this system there needs to be more concrete ways in making sure that the viewers are over the age of eighteen. Possible ways of this is background checks to insure…
happen if you don’t protect yourself and get yourself checked out. Early Memories About Sex in Family. My early memories about developing my sexuality as a young girl into adolescent is a very interesting topic. I look back and try to remember the time when I was a young girl starting school and surrounding myself with other children. There was no worry about fitting in or being liked, because at that time our focus wasn’t on who we are as a person. We didn’t understand that one day it would…
