Aim: • To investigate the effects of on the rate of reaction of magnesium with different concentrations of Hydrochloric acid (HCl). • To investigate the effects of different surface areas of magnesium in its rate of reaction with hydrochloric acid (HCl). Introduction: The rate in which reactions occur between chemicals, such as Magnesium and Hydrochloric Acid, are effected by four main factors. These factors are temperature, concentration, the presence of a catalyst and the surface area of…
Experiment 7 Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution Of Salicyamide Name: Lidia Santiana Palha Student number: s3333523 Email-address: lidiapalha@gmail.com Name of demonstrator: H.Helbert Reaction Equation Summary Salicylamide and sodium iodide are dissolved in ethanol, and stirred and cooled to 0. After that household bleach was added while stirring vigorously, solution changed from colorless to pale yellow. Sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid were added aswell.…
The GCMS analysis showed the metabolites could be definitely identified as concern compound by comparisons with known authentic compound. The m+ ion is found at m/z94 for phenol. The molecular weight of the phenol is 94. The base peak value of phenol was observed as 94 and mass peak values were recorded as 66, 39, and 55. The m+ ion for acetophenone is m/z 120. The molecular weight of the compound was observed as 120, the base peak and mass peak values were recorded as 105 and 91, 77, 51, 39,…
Michael is an IG2 chemistry student. He has to his disposal, in the chemistry lab, the chemicals sodium chloride, in both chip and powdered form, and hydrochloric acid. Michael decides to mix the two substances by pouring the hydrochloric acid on the sodium hydroxide in both states chip and powder form. Michael does not have an aim or reason for doing this so his intentions are unknown. Michael gives a possible outcome or hypothesis that as soon as the hydrochloric acid is added the chips of…
6. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION All the results generated from the present study are represented in the respective tables. The powdered gum of Acacia arabica was subjected to preliminary organoleptic evaluation. The scanty availability of information on this plant facilitates the study on it. The attempt is made to study the Pharmacognostical, phytochemical and pharmacological activities of gum of the plant. The study was divided into three major parts viz. • Pharmacognostical studies •…
Basicity of Pyridine vs Pyrrole The lower the pKb value of a compound, the stronger a base it is. Since pyridine has a lower pKb value, it is a stronger base than pyrrole. In this example, we cannot use either the steric factor or inductive factor to explain their basicity. Instead, we have to look at the hybridization state of the respective nitrogen atoms. The nitrogen atoms in pyrrole and pyridine are sp2 hybridized because they satisfy the following two conditions: 1) the atom has at least…
“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless--like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; you put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; you put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash.Be water, my friend.”-Bruce Lee. Water can obtain many ways, but the most dominated ways are tap, water that is usually received from a person's home that originates from a water plant or well on the personal property. Or bottled water, water that is purchased from a…
The electrochemical properties of the squaraine dyes (SQ1 & SQ2) were investigated. The effects of the chemical structures of two SQ1&SQ2 dyes were selected in relation to the variable property of -COOH substituent for SQ1 compare to SQ2 which without substituent and determine their potential energy levels in ground and excited states HOMO and LUMO. The HOMO energy levels of the SQ1 & SQ2 dyes are -5.19 eV and -5.16 eV. The LUMO energy levels are calculated to be -3.08 eV and -3.1eV respectively…
3.1 Cure characteristics of CIIR with accelerated sulphur The cure characteristics of CIIR with an efficient type of accelerated sulphur (EV) system at different vulcanization temperatures are depicted in Figure 2 and Table 2 respectively. The EV system used here particularly to reduce the set properties at elevated temperature as it possesses relatively less polysulfidic linkages as compared to the conventional sulphur vulcanization (CV) system. It can be seen from the figure that the…
Ferhan Abdullah Thursday, 09 November 2016 Experiment 7 The Separation of Three Organic Compounds by Acid-Base Reactions and Liquid-Liquid Extractions Abstract: The purpose of the experiment was to isolate the three mixtures 9-fluorenone , benzoic acid and benzocaine by the liquid-liquid extraction method and the acid-base reaction technique. Using the acid-base reaction technique, the acid and base are neutralized, producing salt and water. By using the liquid-liquid extraction method, two…
