This was it: senior year of high school. I had become one of the most popular girls in the school and planned to end my high school career with a bang. All I had to do was get through one more year without anyone knowing my secret. I had come this far, surely I could continue with this secret until June, right? I waltzed into my English class, ready for day one. Then, it happened: Dr. Linda Gilliam walked into the room. All the students hated her and I was no exception. She was a tough one! I sank in my chair, I was going to be exposed. I had no idea that Dr. Gilliam’s class would ignite my passion for education. I was one of the girls who appeared to have everything. I had great socialization skills, but I was terrified of public speaking. Dr. Gilliam was about to alter the course of my life. When the butterflies began to turn in my stomach, she encouraged me by saying, “You’ve got this, Terrie.” By second semester, not only did I develop a love for her class, but I also joined the debate team. Although I come from a family of educators, she inspired me to push past phobia and…

Going into my senior year I was aware that there was going to be a new girls soccer coach in which I was very upset about. I already worked my butt off to make the team and show my potential and it paid off, but then my coach decided to leave for personal reasons. This was very controversial because a lot of us felt upset with our coach, but we also realized we need him more than we thought we did, especially all sixteen of us girls going into our senior year of high school. So always in the…

I suppose that I must accept that summertime, and more importantly, summer vacation, has ended. Moreover, the summer’s cessation means that my senior year of high school has commenced. As in the past number of years, weekdays during the school year hold for me the essence of adulthood: routine. Every day, at five thirty in the morning, I awake to the painfully bright blue face of my alarm clock. The hammer-like strike of my fist upon the top of the device in order to silence clock’s incessant…

In High School I would of never imagined me attending Southern Adventist University. I honestly did not think that I would attend any school over about $6000 dollars anyway. The community college in my neighborhood is where i was expected to go. It was cheap enough to where i wouldn’t have to pay a dime, close to home and nearly everyone i knew started of college there to save money. With my parents being from Haiti and not making enough money to support me in school community college was what i…

"You can and you will go to college and I will help you make it happen." These words were spoke to me by my high school business teacher, Edward Betts. Mr. Bett 's was the most blunt, snarky, funniest, and outspoken man you would have ever met. He wasn 't just these things though, he was also the most helpful, caring, hardworking, and driven man I have ever met. He was one of the two teachers that have ever made an impact on my education from kindergarten to my senior year. The other teacher…

regrouped and emailed my professor to figure out what went wrong. It turned out it was simply a misunderstanding with instructions, and I have done exceptionally well on the rest of the assignments since. One day, my senior year in high school, we were handed three different narratives prompts. The rules were simple pick one of the prompts and write about it. Easy right? At the time, the prompt that stood out to me the most was, “think of a time when you taught someone something important.” I pondered the topic for sometime and what finally popped into my head was a great experience when I was in the seventh grade. In one of my classes there was an autistic kid, and I had the fulfilling privilege…
