Going into DE English I was quite intimidated. I was telling myself that I had nothing to worry about because I truly believed I was an above average writer. During my freshmen and sophomore years in high school I was enrolled in honors/advanced English classes. Junior year came and I took the next step to registering for the AP English 11 class. I passed this class with flying colors and decently scored on the AP test with a 3. I suppose deep down inside the intimidation was generated from the knowledge that DE English was a true college level course. I was not quite assured that I was prepared for this class, but I had a goal when signing up for DE; to become a better writer. Even if my writing skills were not ready for this class intentionally,…

Throughout the year in Honors Freshmen Literature Composition, I have grown as a writer through fine tuning my strengths, acknowledging my weaknesses, and assessing my growth as a writer. I have improved my use of sensory detail, vocabulary, and word choice and set reading and writing goals for next year. My most prominent writing strength that I have improved during this year is my use of sensory detail. Throughout my recent writings, there is evidence of my expansion of sensory detail through…
we are unable to form a clear, separate self other than the self we transmit from our caretakers. So, if our parents were unable to communicate that we were okay and acceptable, we would view ourselves as lesser and that ,in turn, would lead to self-criticism. Furthermore, we tend to treat ourselves the same way our parents did so if our caretakers dealt with us in a hurtful manner, as adults we will find all kinds of ways to perpetuate that unresolved pain onto ourselves. Our view of ourselves…
