When thinking of a person I admire, I had to deeply consider this quote "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." ~ Martin Luther King Jr. After giving careful consideration to what Dr. King meant in his words of wisdom, I can say without a doubt that the person I admire most is Colin Kaepernick. I do not follow his football career; therefore, I cannot judge his athletic ability. Colin Kaepernick, is the person I admire most because he has demonstrated the kind of courage that is rare to find in today’s society. By refusing to stand during the singing of our nation’s national anthem as a form of protest against the systemic racial injustices that people of color are forced to endure on a daily basis, in every aspect of our lives. Making such a bold statement has indeed made him one of the most hated people in the United States of America. This is especially true as it relates to majority of white Americans. Being that I come from a family with a strong military background, I must admit that the controversy surrounding his form of protest has ignited numerous arguments and heated debates within my own family. As a young Black male living in America I know the injustices that…

What A Woman Wants In Dennis Prenger’s article What Do Women Want? He also says that even feminists are most happy when they’re in a happy marriage to an admirable man. Admiring one’s husband does not make him a lord and her his serf, it makes her fortunate. He implies that young girls are taught that admiring their man is considered “sexist” in today’s society…

asked me that earlier, I would probably awkwardly have told you that my life was good and that nothing big or important happened. Well after some serious thinking I have come to the conclusion that my life and the events that occurred shaped me to who I am today. My life so far has been a roller coaster of events since the day I was born. Since the day I was born I have had many events that made the human I am today. To start off, like any other baby, there is a due date of when the baby should…

Margaret Mead states, “We are taught to celebrate and admire the one who gets the highest grades, the one voted most attractive or most likely to succeed. But while we often rejoice in the success of people far removed from ourselves—we tend to regard the success of people close at hand, within our small group, as a threat.” But is this the case in society? Success is seen as a source of happiness and security, a source of pride. It is thought of as a good thing to be successful. But success can…

I have chosen the poem “I do not love thee” by Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton. This poems seems to be talking about someone the author knows and likes. The author, Ms. Norton seems to be saying that while she doesn’t feel true love for the subject of the poem, she enjoys their company. She even admires the person and misses them while they are gone. For the most part, I didn't find most of the poem hard to understand. However, at the very end of the poem it says “vet. Alas” and I’m not…
