television, or in everyday conversation. What makes the choice of nonfiction for a performance interesting is how the performance subjects are often already known by the audience. How can a performer on a stage hope to compete against a new story, a photograph, or a video clip? This need, an abundance of available information and documentation to scrutiny a performance against, make construction of the performance piece particularly pertinent for Non-fiction. History is set in stone. So do…
many people know about them. As I learn more and more about the many arts of theatre I become more intrigued to explore every theatrical performance possibly out there. My latest experience of theatre was in Austin, Texas. I got the opportunity to attend the Esther’s Follies, a modern day vaudeville theatre. Some quick words to describe this fast pace performance is; colorful, magical, and filled multiple talents such as dancing and singing. The building is located on the corner…
play Fuddy Meers took the stage and put on a unique and exquisite performance. The play took place in the Temple Theatre which I found was a highly interesting venue. There were several different elements that I found greatly intriguing during the course of the ninety minute performance, however, there were a few elements that I felt were also lacking. The first element that I believed helped to add significance to the performance was the stage setup(1). The revolving setup of the stage was…
sound of a cat being hit, give the impression of John searching through storage to find a handbag. These impressions are made through sound because the action the sound represents would be too expensive, too difficult or too short to include in the performance. The piano sound used in act I, was probably not included into the actual scene because a piano is very expensive and it would not be worth the price of the piano for just two parts of an act. The bird sounds used in act II, were probably…
On the 17th October 2015 we went to watch the performance adaptation of Anita and me at the Birmingham REP by Meera Syal and adapted by Tanika Gupta. The performance starred Mandeep Dhillon as Meena and Jalleh Alizadeh as Anita. The play is a touching example of a beautiful coming of age story and follows the tale of a British-Punjabi girl growing up in the Black Country during the 1970s it explores Meena’s struggle to fit into local culture. She soon develop friendships with both Anita and Sam…

The Netherlands Dan Theater offers viewers to experience the art of dance, as well as, the factors that go into achieving excellence through set designs, costumes, and lighting. When comparing different ballet performances, you look at more than just the way the performers dance. You look at the location, use of the stage, force and speed behind each movement, costumes, and the props used. The performance that seemed very different from Firebird in almost all aspects was the first performance of the night, La Source. The ballets of La Source, Komoreibu, and Firebird were performed at the Koger Center on November 10 and 11, 2016. La Source is choreographed by George…
Although I enjoyed every second of each song presented, there was one performance that left me in awe of her artistic ability and creative process as a musical artist. During the song “Better,” Banks made one very touching, simple favor: for everyone in the audience to put their phones down during this particular performance. The initial thought of not wanting to put your phone down was instantly washed away when Banks immersed you into the literal…
