My strongest performance throughout this whole year was probably my last one and the weakest was my demo speech. I would say my strongest was the toast speech because I remembered what I should be working on when I was giving my speech so I felt like I did a lot better…
participate in practices and rehearsals for months to prepare for this week of performances. The 30 pieces that they perform all reflect different topics and interests, some dancers perform in just one piece while others appear in several. This show is a good…
As you walk through the large wooden doors of the red carpeted lobby, the magic of the theatre overwhelms you. You hand your ticket to one of the ushers and they smile and hand you a crisp glossy copy of a beautifully crafted program. He wears freshly pressed slacks of a deep black, and his hair is gelled perfectly into position. Together, you step through another set of heavy wooden doors and into the house of the theatre. With the usher as your guide, you weave through hundreds of crimson…
History of Belly Dancing Belly dancing or “raks sharki” which celebrates the woman form is the one of the most natural dance given the dance is naturally built to flow with the natural movements of a woman. Scholars are not sure of its origin but given the proof one can vaguely pin point the origin to the Middle East and North Africa. The dance was practiced for based in religion, celebration but has expanded to an increasingly popular dance form practiced in every country. Belly dancing can…
combined create a longer flowing narrative. Another way in which the performance has tried to engage a 21st century audience is through the redefining of theatre techniques, one such way is the performance as a shared experience between audience and the performers. Whilst most of the performance is set in the spherical set, the lights symbolic of the stars reach out into the audience and bring the audience into the world of the performance. The use of the bubble machine during the underwater…
Augusto Boal and Bertolt Brecht are two performance theorists who have two very different perspectives on theatre. Brecht used his experience of a Marxist to influence his idea of “epic theatre” to stir the will of action in its audience. Boal believed it to be detrimental for a play’s audience to have an emotional understanding of the characters and the effects the play have on said characters. I am curious about how the theories of Boal and Brecht apply to Tokyo Fish Story which was written by…
I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable and funny the play actually was. The cast was very animated and absolutely adorable! The stage was small and the audience was close around the stage which added to the enjoyment of the performance. The props and costumes seemed to be from the 1940’s and well placed around the stage. The hidden doors that actually swung open and closed were fabulous and was used perfectly with the story. Elsa Von Grossenknueten played by Carolin Hansa did a great job at…
before. Also, I never heard of the Illusion by Tony Kushner before, and I had absolutely no idea what the play I was about to see was actually about. When I was thinking about going to the play, I was actually very excited about seeing a live performance for the first time. On the other hand, I had the thought in the back of my head that I was not going to have any clue what was going on during the play at all, because of not knowing of the Illusion by Tony Kushner. In the beginning of the…
The first speech that I will give my critical analyses on is Audra Bosarge. Audra openly spoke about how nervous she was in her speech, however, besides a few issues, I think she did well. She followed the directions with her speech. It was well organized and delivered. She stayed within the 1-2 minutes and she was seen waist up. Verbally, Audra spoke clearly and with a good variation in her voice and at a good speed. Although she spoke well, she said the word “Umm” entirely too much…
