On November 22nd , 2015 , I had attended a play “A servant of Two masters” that played downtown Pittsburgh at the O’Reilly theater, the play was directed by Ted Pappas. He had put together a creative and intriguing play, having actors stay spontaneous and interact with the audience, therefore no parts would be found boring nor dry. All the actors had held up their end of their roles quite well, by fully disguising themselves as that character they were suppose to be during the entire play.…
The Open Hand is a dark comedy about giving to others without expecting anything in return. The play portrays the life of two couples and their close friendship, but once an act of generosity comes their way, their world is shaken up and true feelings about their relationships begin to emerge. In their mentality an act of generosity becomes about being in debt to the person giving, and having to always return the favor in order to not look bad as a person. If somebody does a generous deed, it…
no time. Self- Actualization a Concert of Dance was my favorite production throughout the entire semester. Each piece gave off their own energy and meaning, this kept the audience’s attention. A mixture of emotions could be felt throughout the performance and that’s what made me fall inlove with this production even more. I would recommend this production to any that has a fascination of…
Music has been a part of the human existence since prehistoric times. Prior to the written word, music was used as a method to pass history from generation to generation. Music was created by voice or by crude instruments by those who wished to make it easier to remember information. Over the ages, music has developed into two broad categories cultivated and vernacular. Vernacular music is traditional defined as a more natural experience of music and is the original type of music created by…
Manik Nindra Performance #1: Chicago. 3/1/16 This performance took place from February 24th through the 28th of 2016 in Russell Auditorium. The musical’s setting took place in the 1920’s and consisted of 2 acts. Chicago consisted of jazz music, liquor, sex, and it showed how corrupt the judicial system was back then. After the show I spoke to Nich Stinson, who performed as a member of the male ensemble, and he told me that the musical was based on a true story. The first act of Chicago left…
Through the “Where Am I?” and “When Am I There?” portion of The Gister Method Alberti gives us some very practical uses and ways to discover the where is the character is and when they are there in order of expand the wholeness of a character. We have started to discover the importance of the given circumstances through monologue rehearsals and the impact that it makes on the overall tone and objectives in a piece of text. Throughout this chapter we are exposed to many aspects of the “Where Am I…
As class has progressed this semester I have seen such a difference in the way I approach text and breath through my acting. Breath has been a continual theme, but it is really not about the air moving into our lungs being absorbed into our blood stream and then the CO2 exiting our bodies. What makes breath so special in response to voice is and how we use this very scientific process to make emotional connections and expressive actions that joins us as humans to each other and connects an actor…
happens once. You can never see the same performance twice. It will be different every time, whether it is different dancers on stage or a slight change in the music, but that’s why I like dance because though it is never the same, the emotion you will feel while watching this live art being danced in front of you will forever be the same. The audience should consider itself to be a full member of a dance production because they are what keeps dance performances going. The audience pays for…
piece. It was held in the T. Earl Hinton Music Hall in the Wright Music Building. Around 130 people were there. I never really know what to expect from school performances. I have never been to a completely Jazz concert before, and especially not one done by professionals. There were a lot more musicians playing than at the classical performance I went to, so the atmosphere felt different. There was a formal conductor this time, Ryan Truesdell, who was very free spirited and did not conduct…
Tennis shoes, boots, sweat pants, leggings, jackets, and t-shirts are just a few of the many possibilities a dancer could wear to dance in. Baggy comfortable clothing gives a dancer a feel for a routine, sometimes even becoming a medium in the performance. Whereas, in ballet, a dancer wears tight minimal clothing to see every line and every movement the body makes. Both styles of dance have very different styles of clothing, but both genres use clothing as an aspect to fully understand parts of…
