The first piece of physical evidence of ancient civilization I want to discuss is Otzi the Iceman. In September of 1991, hikers in the Ötztal Alps stumbled on a body that was still partially frozen in a glacier. The Body was made discoverable due to climate changes forcing the glacier to melt. The hikers originally thought that they had found an unfortunate hiker who had disappears just a few decades ago. The hikers were baffled when they were told that the body they had found was thousands of years old, specifically from the Copper Age. The discovered body was nicknamed Ötzi, the Iceman. Otzi was around 40 to 50 years old when he died. The unearthing of Otzi’s body has given scientists the information and new data about a past era and shows…

The Iceman, also called Ötzi, is a mummy from the Stone Ages who was discovered by hikers, Erika and Helmut Simon in the Alps in the late 1900s. The Iceman when he was found was stuck in a glacier called the Niederjoch Glacier. This glacier is part of what kept the Iceman preserved for so long. He is one of the oldest mummies in the world, at about 5,300 years old and he lived around 3300 BCE. When the Iceman was first discovered, he was thought to have died of natural causes. This was thought…
Ötzi was a European man from around the Austria/Italy border. He died buried underneath a glacier in the Alpine mountains and unintentionally his body was mummified. Ötzi is important to the history of tattoos not only because he has the oldest known tattoo, but because he has 61 distinguishable total tattoos on his almost 5,300 year old body. He has tattoos on his torso, legs, lower back, and wrists. Unlike tattoos of today, it doesn’t appear that the Iceman’s tattoos were works of art. Instead…
investigation revealed that this man was around 5,000 years old, and had also been murdered. We believe that the iceman Otzi was assassinated by a group of people because they disagreed with him for some political reason. Otzi was discovered with many different items; with the use of these items we can infer why Otzi was killed. Among them was a copper-bladed axe. The copper axe he carried tells us that he was a of high ranking member of his village, the axe was a very powerful tool, as well as…

These permanent designs, sometimes plain, sometimes elaborate, always personal markings have served as amulets, status symbols, declarations of love, signs of religious beliefs, adornments and even forms of punishment. Prior to my research I had no idea where the tattoo even originated from? Which is ironic because neither does anyone else. The history of the tattoos are…

Ice Man After reviewing other students post and informative writing pieces Iv came to A final conclusion on how Otzi got to the top of the mountain in his final moments. I believe that early in the morning Iceman Otzi and his hunting partner headed out to gather food for their tribe. He grabbed his hunting knife, quiver and cloak and headed into the northmost part of the woods. They journeyed 4 miles before reaching a stream that had a small deer drinking from it. Otzi readied his arrow to…
