The Moment When I Shot My First Deer It was a brisk October morning at my house. The temperature was 51 degrees and the wind was headed to the south. Which was a perfect wind to hunt the stand we had hung the week before. It was my first time ever going out on a youth hunt, which at 9 years old was pretty exciting. As my brother and I started walking into the woods, I started feeling nervous and a little excited. As soon as we entered into the woods I started to notice the sun slowly poking through the thick canopies of the trees and I knew that we needed to hurry up and get to the stand. When we get to the stand, I start to climb up the freezing cold metal rungs of the ladder. When I got to the top of the stand I remember thinking it was so high up, but it was only about 13 feet above the ground. My brother handed me the gun, which was really cold and really heavy. The gun my brother chose for me was a black 270 that he claimed to have a curse on it, because he could never kill a deer with it. We get all setup I make sure I can see every direction. I start seeing movement around 7:30 am, but it turned out just to be a small squirrel shaking a limb on the tree 50 yards away. I feel my phone vibrating about 8:00 am and it’s my mother asking if I had shot a deer yet. I tell her not yet and ask how her and dad's vacation was going.
