    boy, brought by the heavens on a roll of silk. His name was Orpheus. Like other boys and girls, he grew up, always the smartest in the class and best at every activity. He was loved by everyone, and he loved to help out around the village. He would fix broken toys, cook at the village church, and cared for the elderly. He had lots of friends, most of which were from his orphanage. But he bore a secret gift, and each year, on the last full moon, would leave the village and venture into the neighboring forest. Since he lived in the orphanage near by, he was never missed, and never suspected of suspicious behavior. In Orpheus’s village, there was a church that he worked at regularly. Many of the priests there appreciated his help, and emphasized to Orpheus the path of the gods. The priests believed that the path of the gods was the only way of life, and that any other philosophies not directly governed by the gods’ will to change the destinies of men should be banned. If the priests found out that any one man should be following the path of other philosophies, they imprisoned him, and held him for execution. Orpheus knew this, and he also understood his secret gift. He was drawn by its untapped power, and ignored the warnings of the priests.…
