Freshman orientations can be more than just an event – think about that you’re dropped in a completely new world with different faces and even different languages. And how many times you thought, “That’s just too much to take in a short time”? Orientation becomes more and more important when a campus is increasing the diversity of its student body. I have gathered some information of the problems exist with orientation week. I will also analyze these questions and give some workable solution to improve our orientation experience for both local and international students and make our college better position. To begin, here is a list of problems caused by parts of orientation that proved difficult for both international students and general students; the data come from not only the problems I have discovered myself but also from my survey around the…

social circle. Suddenly, I found myself surrounded by a group of athletic, and health-conscious peers. I now had friends whose priorities were staying active. Their emotional support, companionship, and validation all influenced my engagement in physical activity. They say “what happens at Camp Oconto stay at Camp Oconto”, but I’m willing to share a glimpse into what happens during PHE/Kin orientation week. All of the first years board a bus and spend three days on a campsite just outside of…

The most significant volunteer contribution to date that I have made was volunteering at the NOW (Newcomer Orientation Week) program. It is a program designed to train individuals as "peer leaders" in their school and the larger community. During the time spam of the training session and the actual program, I was able to meet other individuals from different schools and was able to connect with them. The program really changed my personality and motivated me to come out of my comfort zone, and…

It was an interesting week to say the least, it was definitely a very slow paced week but it did not feel like it took to long to be over. Which is a good thing. For the whole week we had 2 main projects we worked on. The first one throughout the morning and then the second one during the afternoon. So everyday this week was the exact same but I liked it. For the first two periods everyday we worked on a physics project, which was making a mouse trap into a race car. It was interesting, on…

I am just going to say this and hopefully you agree with me, Monday's suck ass. The only time a Monday is good is if it lands on a holiday, a birthday, or the last day of school. Nope. The univerese declared that this isn't going to happen. Monday is Test day. What's sad is that if this was eleven, twelve, fifteen years ago, I would be graduating today. Embarking on the wonderful and slightly terrifying journey filled with responsibilites and taxes that is called adulthood. And it was the…

A prominent humanistic psychologist called Erich Fromm wrote a book called To Have or to Be, in which he describes two opposing orientations to living life. These orientations are the having orientation, and the being orientation respectively. In short, he describes the being orientation to life as living life in such a way that values objects above all else. Be it living life for money, or living for the next edition of the iPad, the concept of the having orientation encapsulates the rampant…

has lived in the 80s, had a pair. Today, jellies can take the form of sandals, flats, boots, and even loafers. The 90s! This is almost everyone’s favorite decade, and it is mine. One of the best fashion trends that started in the 90s is the choker. A classic. Long before they encircled the necks of gothic girls, it all spiraled in the late 1800s with Princess of Wales. Markowitz said women wore chokers to protect them and give power. My sources say that chokers were very uncomfortable to…
