Optic Neuritis is a condition where the optic nerve, which carries visual information from the eye to the brain, becomes inflamed. Most of the damage is done to the protective myelin sheath that surrounds the nerve, which is vital for good vision. A few symptoms that occur to people who have Optic Neuritis are: distorted color vision, blurriness, pain, and even vision loss. During a routine eye exam, a doctor will look for signs of Optic Neuritis by checking the eye pressure. The eye will be measured and the pupils will be dilated in order to get a better view of each of the eye’s individual interior structures. If one does have Optic Neuritis, an MRI will be performed and it would include the special images of the optic nerve, leading to possible…

Prior to Ibn Al-Haytham, the accepted principle for optics originated from the Greeks and stated that the eye gives off light itself to produce images of objects . However, Al-Haytham considered situations in the real world that simply didn’t agree with the Greek findings, such as why objects like the moon can’t be illuminated from great distances. Al-Haytham formulated that the eye is instead a receptor of light, and that light is dispersed and diffused in geometric patterns. This is one of…

Optical Fibres By Jaydan Fibre optics are wires made of pure strands of glass or plastic spliced together (weaved together). These wires are as thin as strands of hair so their can be millions of them in a fibre optic cable. The wires are in bundles called optical cables and are used to transmit digital information over long distances. Fibre optics can be used for telecommunication, networking, decorations, endoscopy and much more because they are flexible, carry much more information than…

Astronomy Practical – Carey Zimmer The aim of this experiment is to verify the inverse square law involving the light from the globe of an optics kit (The star) and a light meter placed some distance away. This is to be done by analysing the relationship between the source and the detector. Hypothesis: If the distance between a light source and a light meter increases, then the amount of Lux recorded on the light meter will decrease. Materials: • Light box kit • Power supply • Meter ruler •…

helped him gain a reputation for constructing flawless lens systems, which are important for accurate astronomical observations. During this time, he began to modify several heliometers, which are instruments designed to measure the variation of the sun's diameter at different seasons of the year. One of Fraunhofer’s heliometers was used in 1838 to perform the first measurement of the distance between a star (61 Cygni) and the Earth. Also, in 1817 Fraunhofer constructed a 9.5 in lens for the…

leaves a larger image size. If the object distance is larger than the image distance, then it will project a smaller image, which in turn leaving it with a smaller image size. With this, we were also able to see how the light was refracted and how the magnification changed within every trial. Our group also noticed that if the object distance was bigger than the image distance, so was the magnification. If the object distance was smaller than the image distance, the magnification would…
