    In prelude to the plan for rescue the US sever diplomatic communication and applies an economic embargo against Iran. On April 24, 1980 President Carter authorized Operation Eagle Claw to rescue the hostages and end the oval crisis. This order to use force, after earlier crisis statements not to use force by Carter, was a result of pressure from the American public, media and the upcoming political election would drive Carter decision which at the base was a remedy the responsibility he felt over the decision sparking the crisis. The operation would result in complete failure due to technical difficulties that resulted in loss of needed equipment and personnel, the failure was highlighted even more by the fact that upon orders to abandon the operation, the loss of two aircraft to impact and explosion and the loss of 8 service men resulted in the embarrassment of the US Administration and its military to be seen by worldwide observers as blundering and inept. The perception of US military power and prestige would be long damaged.
