I am an only child with my mom. Sadly my dad was there, but he vanished. I don’t know how. Being an only child has given me many advantages for starters I don’t have my room being invaded with slimy germs. That is exactly why I have not missed a day of school. Also my mom has given all her attention to me, which is every kids dream. I have so many friends at school whom which get punished for whatever their siblings do. This is code one of parents; Parents always have favorites even if they do…
When I was younger I was a spoiled only child for only a few years. I was the center of mommy and daddies attention, and I got what I wanted whenever I wanted. Until four short years later when they decided to bring along another child, my baby sister. I was excited at first because I would have someone to play with all the time, but soon my feelings changed the wrong direction. People don’t realize the words they say can hurt for a lifetime. When I first became an older sister I was excited…
understanding why is difficult and something a child should never go through. But I did. I grew up undocumented and was forced to undergo shame at being “other.” The embarrassment and anger I felt at being asked if I had “papers” by a classmate developed into deep depression and anxiety. I have struggled with depression for as long as I can remember. When I look back to my childhood the only thing that comes up is crying and taunting. Being an only child was difficult as there was no one to…
People who have grown up with siblings might laugh at the idea that I consider being an only child an essential part of my identity. But just as a relationship with a brother or sister can be deeply formative, so can the absence of these relationships. For me, this absence has been a powerful stimulus to my imagination and my growth as a person. When people discover I am an only child, they often react with some sympathy, as if growing up alone meant growing up lonely. It's certainly true that…
As a child, I was a complete and total brat: spoiled, bossy, emotional, you name it, and it was probably an adjective that could be used to describe me. I always had to be the center of attention at every event or family gathering; however, no one seemed to mind because I was pretty stinking cute as well. I was the favorite niece, grandchild, cousin, and everything in-between. I may be pretty vain in admitting this, but what else would you expect from an only child? Yep, that’s right. I was an…
bravely entered the room. When I walked in, something felt off; but I couldn’t quite place it. I looked around the room curiously and that 's when I saw it; I was the only Guyanese child in a sea of African American children. From the moment…
Day One: There was a big snow storm so there was only one child in class. I was not able to pick a Roo-Buddy. Day Two: Everyone was in class. I picked my Roo-Buddy, Eliza. I learned that Eliza has a speech problem. So my activities are geared more towards language development. I let her color and design a folder. The original one was never given back, so I let her draw on another one. I got to know her on a more personal level today. Day Three: Eliza has been out of school because of pink-eye.…
The story “the only child: debunking the myths” by Lauren Sandler. Is about how people pressure Mrs. Sandler about having another child besides her two year old daughter. But, she has several arguments to why should she wouldn’t have a second child. The first argument is how parents spend about two hundred eighty six thousand dollars on average before college. But because of a recession those cost have gone up. Sandler also says its marvel to me these days anyone can manage a second kid- forget…
In the article “17 Reasons Why It’s Better To Be an Only Child” by Alexandra Martal, the main idea is that there are various benefits to being the first and only child in the family. The author mentions numerous times how being an only child can shape who a person is in the future and help them with everyday skills that one may lack due to multiple siblings. I never had an older brother to stick up for me when the boys were mean, I never had an older sister to teach my how to do my makeup…
The hallway is lit by a single light attached to the middle of the popcorn ceiling. There used to be two lights but one bulb flickered and died leaving the hallway dim. The popcorn ceiling is picked off and gone in some spots, mostly around the light and close to the walls. There are also a few tan stains that are darker around the edges and lighter almost white as they go in. The stains might be water stains from who ever lived in the house before. The flooring in the hallway is a worn dark…
