The community I chose to research was Chowhound, which is an online community for foodies. The foodie community subjects range from Bars and Restaurants (715,297 posts) to Not About Food (6,376 posts) and several more. The online community can post comments to any of the subjects they choose, adding in their advice, differences and chosen recipes. This site allows for this community to treat it somewhat like a social media site. People will even have some little disagreements within their conversations which sometimes are full-length posts back and forth. However, some people post recipes and ask questions on how to make certain meals for certain people such as kids or for a large party. They will post advice, questions where many people…

Regardless if a community is a sports team, a religious group, or American society, communities give their members some set of perks. Although some opportunities are for the benefit of their members, some opportunities extend outside their population into other communities. Not only are there potential opportunities to gain knowledge and experience when two or more communities begin to intertwine, there is also a…

Beginning this class, I was not sure what to expect because I did not really know what community health was. I signed up for the class to fulfill the requirement for my minor. Throughout this class, I have learned so much about the aspects of the community health, agencies, drug abuse, health rates, and disease types and control. These were all topics that were greatly interesting to me and I feel like the class improved my understanding of the way in which many communities operate. It also…

Settlement houses were essentially community centers where people could go to get help with anything that was troubling them. This is illustrated by Hull House in Chicago, Illinois. Personal Theology: A Garden of Community Lucy Atkinson Rose’s idea of the sermonic moment continues to strike me as a new and powerful method of developing relationships through sermons. Atkinson Rose proposes the following: “One form of preaching aims to gather the community of faith around the Word where the central conversations of the people of God are fostered and refocused week after week.” In suggesting that we rethink sermons as a shared experience of Truth, rather than truth from the…
