Minnesota politician Ignatius Donnelly says in the Omaha Platform, “Corruption dominates the ballot-box, the legislatures, the Congress, and touches even the ermine of the bench” (Zinn and Arnove 229). He believes that the country is corrupt and cannot be stopped. Donnelly then talks about “The vast conspiracy against mankind that has organized on two continents” (Zinn and Arnove 229). By this they mean that the government of America is not the only government that is corrupt, but other countries are corrupt too. The Omaha Platform goes on to say that public opinion is silenced. As a result of this silence, nothing can be done to change politics. The Omaha Platform then says that the two political parties in America fight for themselves and against each other rather than fighting for the American people and against corruption. They believe that the parties ignore all the real issues in the country and focus on non-important issues. The Omaha Platform then says, “If not met and overthrown at once it forebodes terrible social convulsions, the destruction of civilization, or the establishment of an absolute despotism” (Zinn and Arnove 229).
