I went to see “The Odd Couple (female version)” by Neil Simon at Brodniak Hall in Anacortes on November 12 and 19. The play was directed by Scott Burnett and two student directors: Cierra DeCamp and Helena Pleet. I went to see the show twice with different casts. The First cast was Angelina Sasso as Sylvie, Kathleen Farr as Mickey, Trinity Bean as Renee, Maddie Hering as Vera, Aaliyah Cervantes as Olive Madison, Cabry Biddle as Florence Unger, Scott Geer as Manolo, and Jonathan Pringle as Jesus. The second cast was Maddie Hamblen as Sylvie, Lexie Prue as Mickey, Anna Wolf as Renee, Eden McOmber as Vera, Isabella Zullo as Olive Madison, Jade Carter as Florence Unger, Jake LaSalle as Manolo, and Jonathan Pringle as Jesus. The play was about the…

different time periods. Although plays, dramas and screenplays are not in the literary works category, they are frequently known to be comprised of these similar literary elements as well. This appears to be the case in Robert Frost’s famous poem, “Mending Wall” and Neil Simon’s well known drama, The Odd Couple. While these two writings are categorized in different groups, they share the comparable theme of limitations. It is a person’s civilized responsibility to, at all times, know their…

“It’s true that we can’t help the circumstances we’re born into and some of us start out in a much tougher place than other people. But just because we started there doesn’t mean we have to end up there” (“Beat the Odds”). This quote comes from professional football player Michael Oher’s book I Beat the Odds from Homelessness to The Blind Side and Beyond. Resilience is what helps children in harsh circumstances survive and prosper. The origins of resilience have roots in the field of medicine…

Beating the Odds If you say the name “Esparza,” many teachers at APA will most likely have an aneurysm. I don’t think it’s a hidden fact that teachers here aren’t too fond of that name. Honestly, I’m not either, and we’re family, and yet we are completely different, but how? My siblings are more similar to my family than I am, and I’ve always wondered how I turned out completely different than those who raised me. Growing up was tough. I never really had a childhood; I just babysat my siblings…

made odd numbers different from even numbers? From our first days in school we learned that an odd number was any number that wasn’t divisible by 2, which in turn means every number that isn’t even. But what really sets apart an odd number from an even number? I believe that an even number is a sign of perfection. Numbers surround us and the perfection that lies beneath what we perceive is generally found in even numbers. From the minutest details of biology to the greatest foundations of…

The Odd in Five Oaks Gryphon is a story by Charles Baxter made in Tommy’s point of view. In Five Oaks, Michigan, there is rarely anything interesting occurring. At his unenthusiastic school, Tommy’s 4th grade teacher, Mr. Hibler, gets terribly sick and calls in for a substitute the next day. Tommy expects the substitute teacher to be community college graduate moms who nervously cover material that the class has already mastered. To his wonder, the substitute is someone no one in Five Oaks has…

There are four antagonists in Odd Thomas. Two of them are police officers, Simon Varner and Bern Eckles, and two of them aren’t, Bob Robertson a.k.a. “Fungus Man”, and Kevin Gosset. Varner, Eckles, and Gosset had known each other since they were fifteen. They were devout satanic cult members. They ran into Robertson sixteen months before the failed mall shooting, and wanted to kill him because of his mother’s wealth, but they discovered that he was willing to spend money on their plan. Because…

    Cody Splunk Analysis

Out of all three of the main characters, my least favorite would have to be Cody Splunk. I personally loved the overall melancholy feel of the book despite what the cover would have one to believe prior to reading it. The stories behind both Laura Freedman and Janice Gibbs flow seemingly concurrently and are almost poetic in nature. There are many similarities found between Gibbs and Freedman that are not found in Splunk. He’s the odd man out basically. But, of course, him being the odd man out…
