This observation was supposed to take place someplace outside of my comfort zone. Outside of my comfort zone would typically be any place outside of my home town Islip. I chose to make my observations at the West Islip Public Library which is ironically not as close as one would expect to be from Islip. To begin my observations, I parked my car in the parking lot and peered out my windows. In front of me was a black Chevy SUV. In the car I noticed there was a red bandana hanging from the rear…
is 3 years old and his mind reflects the inexperience he holds, this inexperience makes him special and garners amazement from me at every turn. I began observation of Sebastian about an hour before dinner was served to everybody so at this point appetizers were still being displayed and people were just mingling around him. I kept my observations to myself, never interfering with what he was doing and never informed him I was watching, although I did tell his parents. Sebastian is young boy…
I was thinking that observation is one of most important elements in teaching young children. Even if I knew that it is important, I did not know the methods and skills to observe the children. By spending time in the classroom every week doing observations helped me a lot to practice and gain the right skills to observe a child. I was able to catch more behaviors in children that I have not noticed before because I was more cautious and tried to see in details of children’s behaviors.…
Partying on the Weekend For my observation I went to a house party in town on Saturday night. It was a tightly packed house, meaning there were little rooms and a lot of people. The tight quarters in the house forces people to interact with one another. In order to move from one end of the house to the other some interaction had to take place. The party was slow until about 11 p.m. when a huge swarm of people started showing up. Some walking into the house while others were stumbling or getting…
I did my observation in a home daycare setting and was focused on the young male who was 5 who has been diagnosed with Autism. He is on the lower spectrum of Autism but still has the slight disability. While observing him, I observed the other children in the facility. There are 6 kids with one teacher. Her home is set up that everything takes place in the living room except nap time. That happens upstairs in the various rooms. (She lives in a multi-million-dollar home) The children range from…
I chose to do my observation during one of my shifts at work in a child care center. More specifically, it was in a transition classroom for children of ages two to three. The indoor classroom was brightly lit with furniture such as tables, a carpet play area, couches, and different toys meant for different sections of the room. The atmosphere was comfortable and not quiet or loud with children participating in activities at a neutral volume. It was play time right before lunch time and the…
NAEYC standard 3b: Using Observation, Documentation and Assessment Tools A Brief Introduction to the Child In respect for the daycare center and the privacy of the child, I use will the Pseudo Name of Joe. He is a four-year-old, that is average height (roughly about 3’5). He has brown/blackish curly hair and brown eye color. The reason being I picked Joe because right away he grabbed my attention, as soon as I walked into the classroom, I noticed right away that he is always smiling. Also he is…
Observation means being embedded in the action and context of a social setting and background. I decide my observation paper to three different places. Decide and spends one hour each place and look forward and gathering some information and takes notes each location around the Denver area. The places I chose three locations in Denver which are Stapleton, Lowery, and Wash Park. Which are the three days every other weekend are the same hours those for those days. First I Observed and chose…
three years old that had recently transitioned into the classroom. As I was conducting my observation I also observed that when a conflict arose with C.P. most of the times it was not addressed by any of the staff members. Most of the time there busy trying to assist other children with challenging behaviors. • What might you be able to infer about the child’s play from what you observed? Based on the observations I have gathered C.P. seems to be the leader in several activities. C.P. had a…
Walking into Bob Gibbard’s office feels like walking into a lion’s den. He is incredibly tall and solid, sitting behind his computer just waiting for someone to walk through his door and ask for advice. If I were a freshman and Bob was my advisor, I would be terrified. That is, until he opens his mouth. Once you get past all of the military posters and accolades that scatter his office, there sits a genuine and thoughtful man, someone who reminds me of my grandfather. I’ve had the pleasure of…
