This report will highlight the difference in vegetation change from 1991 to 2011 in the southern Amazonia of Brazil. The report will do this by outlining what NDVI is and how it is derived and then analysing the specific results of Brazil. NDVI stands for Normalised Difference Vegetation Index and usually derived from satellite data, for landsat data this is usually thirty metres above the ground, to classify land cover change over a continental scale (DeFries and Townshend, 1994). When light hits a leaf part of the light spectrum is reflected back to the observer (Peñuelas and Filella, 1998:1) and the NDVI is calculated using two variables from this light spectrum, the amount of red and near infrared reflection (NIR), as NDVI= NIR-red/NIR+red…

× 푆2) With ‘S’ is the slope (%) and ‘m’ is a parameter relative to each class of slope (W. H. Wischmeier and Smith 1978) (Table 3). C factor: The vegetal cover factor (C) is considered as the second major factor (after topography) controlling soil erosion (Benchettouh et al. 2017), The factor C indicates the degree of soil protection by vegetation cover. The latter intercepts the rainfall, increases the infiltration and reduces the rainfall kinetic energy before influencing the soil surface…

using this method estimate that Earth’s biosphere weighs about 560 billion tonnes C, with an annual productivity of 104.9 billion tonnes C/yr almost evenly split between terrestrial and marine environments, despite the oceans containing only 1.34% of all complex biomass. This total biomass is approximately 1/100,000,000 of the Earth’s solid mass (M⊕ = 5.97219 × 1021 tonnes) and 1/10,000 of the atmospheric mass (MA = 5.97 × 1015 tonnes) (Field et al., 1998; Groombridge & Jenkins, 2002; Gielen…
