As a means to guiding research to the best evidence possible in order to decrease the rising incidence of type 2 diabetes worldwide Zou, Ye, Zou, and Yu (2017) researched the influences and interaction effects between risk factors. Their cross-sectional survey of 6,600 individuals was sampled for this study. Of that, 338 participants were classified as type 2 diabetes with three common variables amongst each of them: age, triglycerides, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Diabetes patients had a higher age and high triglycerides and total cholesterol with low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol along with increased incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hypertension, high body mass index, and high uric acid. The conclusion of this study identified factors affecting the prevalence of type 2 diabetes and the interactions between those factors which could assist in preventative measures in the future. Evidence Synthesis The systematic reviews and meta-analysis along with the RCT supported the research of the stated PICOT question based on their hierarchy of evidence. The additional studies, although lower on the hierarchical structure of evidence, was useful in substantiating the pre appraised evidence.
