    In his 2016 article titled The Consequences of Reading Inaccurate Information, D. N. Rapp outlines the current state of research into the psychology of interpreting misinformation, which is currently a hot topic issue after the recent presidential election. He discusses the reaction people have to being exposed to inaccurate information, the ways that we intuitively think would decrease the later reliance on the faulty information but do no, and then outlines 4 factors that decrease reliance on inaccuracies. The literature shows that humans are easily fallible creatures, especially when confronted with seemingly reliable information that is clearly false. The incidence of people relying on false information is increased due to the recency of the information even if there is prior knowledge that would contradict the misinformation. Mixing true and untrue information in one source also increases reliance on false information due to the difficulty and confusion trying to discern between the two. The author points to the importance of understanding the effects of these human errors in identifying falsities due to the prevalence of false information in every day written materials, criticizing the media's propensity for highlighting a good story above highlighting the hard truth.
