The New York Islanders returned home early Friday morning from a physical - and some would say lucky - 4-3 overtime win in Winnipeg just hours earlier. They had just finished a brutal road trip through three time zones across Canada and despite a 5-1 record to that point on the trip, had clearly not played their best. Not to mention, Nick Leddy, Matt Martin and, as we would learn Saturday, Calvin de Haan, would all be banged up to varying degrees. Martin and Leddy would be well enough to return to practice on Saturday in preparation for a huge ‘four-point swing’ game against the rival New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, an arena that, unbelievably, the Islanders had yet to visit this season but don’t mind at all. “It’s one of those games, almost like a home game when you come back. I think being in this building against a rival certainly helps the players get up for it after a long trip, but it’s also another game that we have to work on the things that we need to work on. We watched and showed the players some video of some of the hiccups we had on the road trip and hopefully, we can get back on track and play with some speed and pace” head coach Jack Capuano told us prior to yesterday’s late afternoon meeting with the rival New York Rangers.…

For this project I chose to go with the New York Islanders as my company. The Islanders are a professional hockey team currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. There are 2 facets of the organization that are driving factors in its success. The first is hockey operations and the other is the business operations. Business operations handles everything not related to the construction and maintenance of the hockey team. This would include facility management, customer satisfaction and transportation. My…

Another game where the New York Islanders enter the third period tied. Another game where the New York Islanders come away with zero points. In what has become an ugly, repetitive pattern for the 2016-17 Islanders, they would surrender two goals to Washington Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen in the third period of a 4-2 loss. Niskanen, who came into the game had zero goals, notched his first on a precise snap shot over the blocker of Jaroslav Halak after the Islanders forgot how to play basic…

The New York Islanders played game one of their 2016-17 NHL season last night in Manhattan. Game one. That means there are 81 remaining. Yet, if you read through some of the comments on Twitter postgame from a passionate Islanders fanbase, you would think they were just eliminated from postseason contention. I respect the passion, the wanting to win so badly at any cost, believe me. However, there has to be a sense of reasonableness that comes into play when the team you root for has played…

The New York Islanders came into last night’s game four at Barclays Center in Brooklyn with a couple of demons still chasing the proud but recently maligned franchise. Leading the best of seven first round series against the gritty Atlantic division champion Florida Panthers, two games to one, Jack Capuano’s squad was looking to win consecutive playoff games for the first time since 2002. Capuano, who has made all the right moves in the last three weeks or so leading up to this point, did his…

The Islanders did something they have never done in their storied history last night at Madison Square Garden. By defeating their rivals, the New York Rangers, 4-1, they swept the season series (3-0-0-1). An accomplishment that honestly, probably means more to the fans than the players. What the Islanders lost in this game was not two points in the standings but could end up costing a whole lot more. With the playoffs due to begin on either Wednesday, April 13 or Thursday, April 14, Anders Lee…

Can you hear that? Listen real close……Hear it? Peace and serenity across Islanders social media. Everyone might as well be sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and singing Kumbaya. Well, for one night at least. The Islanders eased tensions among the Barclays Center faithful and within their own locker room with last night’s 4-2 win over the sinking Vancouver Canucks in Brooklyn. To add to the good vibes was Jason Chimera and Andrew Ladd finally getting off the snide and scoring…

First, they stop in New Orleans where they receive official papers stating that Solomon is a free man. Then they travel to Washington, D.C. to bring some justice to the case of Burch. While there is evidence against Burch for kidnapping and selling Solomon into slavery, Burch is let off free. The main reasoning is that because Burch is white and he can testify while Solomon cannot take the stand. In the end, no justice is served. He reaches New York to reunite with wife, daughter, and grandson…
