WWII because you can’t bargain with people like Hitler or ISIS, in today’s world. The enemy will always win because appeasement means you want peace but the enemy doesn’t so you will have to make an agreement where you give more than you get. Groups or people like ISIS don’t need your approval to invade countries and kill innocent people in the process so an in order to convince them to stop you would need to give them what they want so there really is no point because the enemy comes out on top. Appeasement isn’t a good idea because it doesn’t really achieve peace it just sometimes, temporarily, stops or slows down the enemy. All appeasement leads to is the enemy getting what they want in order to try to prevent war. ISIS for example, a policy of appeasement with them would mean giving them what they want and on their terms and at the end the most likely wouldn’t keep up their end of the agreement anyway. Appeasement will lead to lose of power because we would be giving the enemy the power. In the end we can all see how appeasement doesn’t work no matter what the time period is or who is involved. You can’t make a deal with the enemy who won’t listen and won’t keep their end of the deal, it just won’t work. Appeasement encouraged Hitler prior to WWII by showing how he was getting exactly what he wanted and because they showed how they feared Hitler and Germany. We can learn from past mistakes and see that appeasement today will only lead to the enemy getting what they want…

When I first read the title of the movie, I did not think that it was going to be about Alzheimer disease. “Still Alice” appears to be a positive movie title. Consequently, I thought that the movie would be based on something positive. While I watched the movie, I learned that the character is facing the hardship of a rare disease (familial Alzheimer’s disease). The biggest question if whether the character is still Alice because of the changes that she is going through with her disease. The…

The Paralysis of the West The disaster at Munich was as a result of Neville Chamberlain’s naivety. In 1938, Chamberlain met with Adolf Hitler and agreed to hold talks with the French and even convinced the Czechs to stand down. However Chamberlain failed to invite Czechoslovakia at the Munich talks because he was naive to believe Hitler’s assurance that he had no more territorial ambitions in Europe. The West did not mount a more determined challenge against the Germans in the 1930s because at…

Winston Churchill famously said, "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last". Appeasement is a policy which concedes to belligerent demands in order to preserve peace. The use of this policy in negotiations with Hitler in the 1930s would be the best example. Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime Minister during this time period, was the primary developer and supporter of this policy. Most British conservatives at the time were in favour of it, alongside contemporary…

In Chamberlain’s eyes, the relationship with Italy was already bearing fruit and needed to be made permanent with the ratification of the agreement. On November 2nd, he brought the motion before Parliament, and claimed that Italy had fulfilled their obligations in Spain by withdrawing 10,000 troops. Arthur Greenwood argued for the opposition that the 10,000 troops were inconsequential and that it was a, “trick to play for time and to prolong the war.” A Conservative critique of the opposition…
