initiatives, ACAP’s Agriculture & Livestock Development Program could be utilized to create a food cooperative between the subsistence farmers residing in off trail communities and the guesthouse owners of Ghandruk. This local sourcing of food can empower the marginalized subsistence communities while presenting a local sustainable farm-to-table food program that appeals to eco-tourists. It was in this small village that I experienced the 8.1 magnitude Gorkha earthquake that shook Nepal to its core, resulting in my evacuation from the country. Since returning stateside I have been dedicated to the continued study of the Nepali language and community-based conservation efforts in Nepal. This past summer I attended Cornell University to complete the only remaining Nepali language course in the United States. A month after completing this program I used my command of Nepali to present a paper at the University of Washington 's Student-Focused Research Symposium on Contemporary Issues in Nepal. It was here that I had the opportunity to interact with faculty from UW 's Nepal Initiative Program.
