On a casual morning where puffs of clouds laid across the blue saturated skies in Salerno Italy, a mandolin was playing live, matching the rhythm of the snare pops and door bells. Mail being tossed on the steps, played on beat with music as if the mail clapping the was percussion from the castanets. The busy people of this small city where bass, placing one foot after there other on beat of the clear music, on there way to the beaches, shopping stores, and there neighbors house. A window of a…
demand. They would play in many locations and at the same time they were very well respected. Going back in time we can say that the earliest way humans made music was through singing. Which means we are a very inestimable instrument. It is breathtaking. As the years went by, instruments came along with different sizes, shapes and sounds. It it amazing what can someone make when combining vocal music with instrumental music. In today’s society we can see divergent musical genres and even…
The Pipe and the Tabor is the instrument I chose. The pipe and tabor is a pair of instruments played by one player and it consisted of a three-holed pipe played with one hand and a small drum that was played with the other hand. The pipe is a simple instrument with a fipple like a whistle or a recorder but usually, it only had three melody holes. The tabor is narrow to simplify overblowing. There is a ridge around the bottom of the instrument to help support the pipe. I could not find a…
After taking the quiz I scored a 23 in the artistic category, this did not come as a surprise to me. I have been interested in the arts for about four and a half years so far and so far my experiences have been amazing! Although I have been a part of many different kinds of arts like acting, singing, and painting, music is my favorite. It doesn't matter whether I am helping somebody learn or just making music myself, I love it. I think I would enjoy most artistic jobs, but I would really like to…
When I turned eleven, rheumatoid arthritis wreaked havoc on my hands, with medications that did the same to my liver. It arched my fingers backwards and killed my ability to play piano as I had done for six years prior. In only a few months, it took away my predominant method of musical expression, the pain and deformity forcing me to quit practicing altogether. Initially upset, I reached for the nearest option to continue my engagement in music: choir. I had been a part of the school’s chorus…
sensation or feelings that Debussy had while he was visiting Spain. The song starts strong, it has lots of contrast between loud and soft. The tone of color of this piece is adventures and curious. I felt this way due to the start of the winds instruments. The winds were soft and with a slow tempo, but as the song developed this smoothness was contrasted by the strings. The strings provided a jagged melodic line due to the abrupt changes that the song had. That gave the song a more variable…
About five years ago I was introduced into the world of music. At the age of 11, I had never touched a single instrument much less made a decent noise on one. My grandmother owned a Casio keyboard that was older than I was that just sat in the spare bedroom unused. Many times when we would stay with them, I would look at the keyboard and long to learn to play it. I had seen piano players before and the idea of being like one of them was my dream. In May of 2012, I acquired the Casio from my…
How might an insider to a musical tradition hear differently from an outsider? An insider to a musical tradition hears it differently compare to an outsider. The insider tends to react to his or her own cultural music in ways that draw on a lifetime of consciously absorbed cultural knowledge and attitude while the outsider tries not to bring ethnocentrism into her or his interpretations. Hearing a musical an insider understood the music and she he can perform while an outsider hears and performs…
