Throughout the course of the years, there has been a series of gun shootings in schools, universities, and public places. Unfortunately, these gun shootings have ended with a profuse amount of casualties instilling fear and melancholy in our society. Although several individuals firmly believe that guns are essential in the quest for survival and it is their right to bear arms, they do not realize the potential dangers of a gun in the hands of a ludicrous, impulsive individual. In a modern era, where there is police security and an emergency phone booth in every corner of a campus, there is no potential need for a gun on a college campus. There are measures of protection that are implemented in every school to ensure the well-being and security of every student on campus. Allowing students to bring guns to school would defeat this purpose and promote violence. As a result of the negative impact guns can have on a college campus, they should not be permitted because it can lead to devastating events risking the…
for Concealed Carry on Campus 173). One objection to not waiting for a police officer is that students who carry guns are not properly trained. While a background check is required in every state, it is true that Indiana does not have a specific training course required to obtain a concealed carry license. However, many states do require training to obtain a license. Thankfully, several organizations in Indiana do offer the public free…
Gun Laws and Regulations Regulations and Gun rights for college campuses is something that has many people questioning the laws. The legislative passing a law allowing college employees and students to carry guns is not the greatest idea. All college students shouldn’t be allowed to carry hand guns. The law should remain as keeping concealed licenses then traversing into open-carry license. There’s a great debate on rather teachers should have the right to be armed which in my opinion could…
there a malicious student on campus taking away lives of other students. In the past few years, guns violence has taken the lives of innocent people and the government has done little to assure citizens safety in the U.S. Large public areas are targets for mass shootings; one example being college campuses. In August 2016 a law will be in effect that will allow students to be armed on campus as long as they are of the legal age 21, and contain a concealed weapon license. Once the law goes into…
Recently, there has been a debate over allowing teachers to carry guns in schools. This debate arose when a nineteen-year-old went to a school in Florida with an assault rifle and killed seventeen people. Many people question how he was able to obtain that sort of weapon. This arose the debate of whether teachers should be allowed to bring their own gun for their and the student's safety. Guns are very dangerous and can cause serious harm to an individual, therefore, teachers should not be…
Gun carry policies base their origins back to the 19th century, when the United States just finished with the Civil War and blacks initially obtained their lawful freedom. During that time, although Africans were officially emancipated, they were kept under subjugation by racist laws, such as the Black Codes and groups like the Ku Klux Klan. Similarly, in 1871, Texas and other southern states banned the carrying of guns in order to control blacks from gaining power over the whites and to prevent…
himself on the college campus in Blacksburg, Virginia (“Mental Health Reporting”). Cho bought a gun despite going through two background checks through licensed gun dealers and having a mental health history in the records that should have prevented him from receiving a gun. Although Virginia had some mental health check laws at the time, certain cases were masked from background checks. But, this is not the only instance, in fact, there have been 102 mass shootings in 2017 alone, from January…
brother, I would not only shelter the consequence he is going through as my own lesson, but I could also establish a vicarious emotional response similar to the previous example. My last example would be watching brother skateboard. My brother was not just a model that reinforced or punished behaviors, but he was also my role model and essentially my mentor on many things. When we would go out skateboarding, my brother, his friends and myself would all practice a variety of tricks at our…
The picture of finals arriving and all the student around campus trying to cram and relearn all the concepts that were taught this semester is not strange. Students cramming for finals and midterms often turn to coffee and nicotine to get through long study sessions. Though some students use more addicting substances to get through long study sessions, there are reports saying that 5%-35% of college students have used stimulants such as adderall, ritalin, and modafinil in the past year…
