    have used a lot of enjambments in the two poems, giving the effect of a story being told. As for the structure of the poems, both of their personas are alone throughout. The child in 'Half-past Two' is alone as for most of the poem (the first 8 stanzas). 'Once upon a schooltime/He did Something Very Wrong...', 'And knew he'd escaped for ever/Into the smell of....'. The persona first seems to be narrating what happened to him and then daydreaming. For 'Hide and Seek', the persona hides alone and towards the end is alone as no one is there. Everyone who had been there had already left. 'Hide in your blindness...', '....where are they who sought you?', this shows that the people the person thought were there were in fact, not there. It was all in his head. He was alone the whole time. Both poems have several voices. From 'Half-past Two', 'He did Something Very Wrong/(I forget what it was).' This particular line shows that there are two voices, one that is reminiscing and looking back to the past and the other, his past self. 'Hide and Seek' is a mix of the persona’s internal and external voices, ‘‘I’m ready! Come and find me!’’, ‘You mustn’t sneeze…’, and the extensive use of imperatives directed to the persona himself such as ‘Don’t breathe. Don’t move. Stay dumb. Hide in your blindness.’, further depicts that the child is in fact alone and is, in a way, talking to himself. The mood in both poems changes quite a bit.
