Who is Jesus? I’m sure that question is something we have all asked ourselves at least once in our lives. As we go through the our lives our view of him changes and grows. We learn about him, we develop a relationship with him. Every person has their own unique relationship with him and we all view him in different ways. For my 4th observation I went into a 2nd grade classroom at Nazareth School District’s Shafer Elementary School. I had arrived around 7:45 a.m. just as the students themselves were arriving. Mrs. Sysko was the teacher in the classroom during my observation and was outstanding with the children. She used technology, such as a smart TV when going over past work and future work they would do that day. The students were able to interact using the technology on the ipad, which made it seem easier for…
2.1. The red sea Chapter fourteen of Exodus presents the account of the crossing of the Red Sea by the people of Israel. It is a significant event in the life of Jewish people because God allowed Moses to divide the sea into two. Scripture says: “The Israelites went into the sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on the right and on the left. The Egyptians pursued, and went into the sea after them, all of Pharoah’s horses, chariots, and chariot drivers.” Here we see God saves his…
Sarah (originally named Sarai) was one of several women in the Bible who were unable to have children. That proved doubly distressing for her because God had promised her husband Abraham that he would be the father of the Jewish nation, with descendants more numerous than the stars in the sky. After waiting many years, Sarah convinced Abraham to sleep with her handmaiden, Hagar, to produce an heir. That was an accepted practice in ancient times. The child born of that encounter was named Ishmael…
Immoderate greatness, in other words extreme greatness could be used to classify Rome which is one of the most highly achieved and powerful empires of all time. The Empire set in time from 27 B.C.E to 476 C.E. circa, was fueled by Emperors that ruled the people, expanding their land, building roads and cities connecting them together, having strong army force, and dividing up their land into legions. The people of Rome began to make laws to abide by, educate the children growing up, and…
I began the journey with the text by reading the entire lectionary for Advent. I rested on each briefly on a daily basis over the course of a week gradually narrowing the selections to Luke 2:1-10. The verse that called to me from the text was “Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.” It speaks to Mary’s role as the mother of the most important and influential child. She wants to treasure and remember the special moments as her child grows, but for me as a Christian,…

have a kid of their own. Robert grew up in Nazareth Pennsylvania with his parents Dot and Robert Sr., and Lou Ann, his sister. After his father Robert Senior served in the US Air Force and worked at Western Electric Allentown, he owned Trainland U.S.A. in Nazareth for over 30 years. There are multiple examples of this throughout Mark’s Gospel. First is when Jesus returns to Nazareth. Jesus returns to his hometown and he is rejected by the townspeople. They questioned his wisdom and the deeds that he did. Mark also claims that Jesus could do no great deeds of power in Nazareth and he was amazed at their unbelief (Mark 6:1-6). This is a huge example of Jesus feeling abandoned as a messiah. Another major instance of abandonment…
Jewish religion was based on the ancient Israelite religion. The Jews were different from other people during that era because they only believed in one God. They worshipped their God like everyone else with sacrificial offerings of animals at their temple. The Jews only had one temple in Jerusalem, which had only two rooms. One room was for sacrifices, and the other room was always empty because there was no idol to representing God of Israel. All Jews believed they were chosen by the one God…
