Is #13 always unlucky? Ask Martina McBride! Her new 13th studio album “Reckless” debuted #2 on the country charts, so apparently not. Upon first listen to this album I thought it was mediocre; however, when I heard it a 2nd time I decided I loved it! How can you not love anything Martina sings? Her voice can be soft and beautiful as well as loud and just as beautiful! She has been nominated 17 times for CMA's female vocalist of the year and won 4 times! Her almost 25-year career speaks for itself! The songs on this album feel like old friends. Martina described in a recent interview that she thinks her fans will find this album familiar. She also stated that it feels like an album she would've made 10-15 years ago. If this was her goal, she nailed it! Her title track “Reckless” is dedicated to her husband. She said she was young and making questionable decisions and he saw through all that and loved her anyway. You may have seen her video for the song. It's quite striking when she cuts her own hair with a pair of random rusty scissors! Listen for this song on the radio and look out for the video! “You and You Alone” is my least-favorite song on the album! I think the lyrics are beautiful; but it's slow and a bit boring. Both of these songs feel a little familiar. Martina didn't have many duets on earlier albums; but in the last 10 years or so, she has started to do that more. This album has two duets. “Diamonds” with Keith Urban. She dedicates this song to her daughters…
material, right…Wrong! The band went into the studio and recorded to what would be their fourteenth studio album Cyclorama. The album was made up of fourteen tracks and was released on February 18, 2003. I picked up Cyclorama as soon as could. I was curious as to how Styx would sound without co-founder and arguable the voice of the group, Dennis DeYoung. Personally, I wasn’t worried or bothered that DeYoung was no longer in Styx. I always gravitated towards Shaws’ material, and Shaw was at a…

The murder of the Clutter family left the towns of Holcomb and Garden City, Kansas in shock and fear. Capote examines all aspects of the Clutter case throughout the novel. In 1967, director Richard Brooks brought Capote’s text to life in the film adaptation of In…
Everything’s Coming Up Capote Holcomb, Kansas is a normal small town with a restaurant, post-office, and its very own school system. In In Cold Blood Truman Capotes describes the small town and its simple atmosphere with uses of selection of detail, imagery, and structure, while setting up for a dramatic and twisting change. “Not that there is a lot to see” is the first impression Capote gives of Holcomb to the readers. But he seems to contradict himself considering the majority of…

Truman Capote’s 1965 novel In Cold Blood, was based upon the true events of the Clutter family murder case, that occurred in the year 1959, in the very modest town of Holcomb, Kansas. The story revolves around the two insensitive murderers, Perry Edward Smith and Richard Eugene Hickock, whom have had the past of growing up in completely opposite home environments from one another, and the detective Alvin Dewey, who goes out of his ways to try his best to capture these criminals. Although Perry…
Ultimately from the beginning of the book the reader is well aware the outcome of the Clutter family. Capote writing structure allows him to build suspense leading up to these murders. He informs the reader that “At the time not a soul in sleeping Holcomb heard them—four shotgun blasts that, all told, ended six human lives.” (5). This builds suspense and confusion, leaving the reader questioning how four shotgun blasts could end the lives on six people. Furthermore, during Capote introduction of…
However, despite this, Kansas is still able to present itself as an aristocrat of commonness within American politics. Even if a politician is from Mission Hills, they can still peg themselves as an authentic, rugged American. Kansas votes Republican consistently, which is an interesting juxtaposition to a century ago, when it was considered a radical area. After the Summer of Life in 1991, the dynamic became not between Democrats and Republicans, but traditional, moderate Republicans (“Mods”)…
