Just east of the Brazos River, lies the land now known as Sugar Land. It was originally owned by the Mexican government and was acquired by Stephen F. Austin after Texas won its independence from Mexico. As a reward, Austin gave the land to Samuel M. Williams in 1828 for his dedicated service (Anhaiser). On Thursday, December 14th I attended a school board meeting in Pleasant Hill for the Southeast Polk schools. There were many people at the meeting, both on the council, from the public, and others.
