Social media has impacted my life in numerous ways. I can and do use a variety of social media apps that are easily accessible on my mobile smart phone, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and WhatsApp. These applications allow me to do many activities in my daily life that would be much harder or impossible to accomplish without them. Specifically, social media has impacted my social life and my life as a college student. It has impacted my social life by showing me the daily lives of my friends, family members, and favorite celebrities. In reverse, it keeps my friends and family members updated about my own life. It also helps me stay in contact with others in creative and inexpensive ways. I go on Instagram and Facebook daily and like quotes from my favorite movies, facts from different historical and nature exhibits, photos of interesting places, videos of funny pets, posts of actors from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.LD., pictures of my friends from high school and college, and images of my family members. For example, I like to see pictures of my sister playing tennis and of my dog and cats at home. I also like to see what is going on in the world of my favorite actors, actresses, television, and movie series, and seeing clips from my favorite episodes and films. My family members can also see what I am doing in college, whether it is a post about a surprise party I threw for a friend or a football game I attended with friends. While most of my…

“You’d make a great RA one-day Grant.” Stated my favorite teacher in high school. Because I really did not know the requirements and duties of a resident assistant, I started to look into it and realized that my personality really did fit with this job. In my opinion though, being a resident assistant would not even be seen as a job because I would enjoy it very much. During the end of September, I approached my resident assistant with all of my questions about trying to get this position. She…

make it a profession, but even when I was young, there was something special about seeing a live orchestra concert. All throughout my childhood, my grandma would take me to musical events, such as Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra concerts. I asssume this is a major contributor to my love of music in general, but there is just something special about hearing a piece of music that is hundreds of years old being brought back to life by local musicians right in front of your eyes—or ears. It should…

Positivist criminology represents the first systematic and scientific study of crime (Bradley & Walters, 2011), and modern positivist criminology began with the work of Cesare Lombroso and the Italian school (Muncie, 2006). Positivist criminology argued that crime was a non-rational behaviour and sought scientific proof that crime was caused by features within the individual (Moyer, 2001). The explanation for criminality was seen as a non-social defect of individuals (Maguire, Morgan & Reiner,…

can be easily defined (McLaughlin and Muncie, 2001), however most people would see it as being a consequence of bad behaviour. There are many arguments suggesting that prisons should be a place of punishment. First is the concept of retribution. Retribution is the punishment of a criminal as revenge for the crime they committed (Robinson and Crow, 2009). When the Conservative Party held power in 1993-1997, the Home Secretary Michael Howard introduced many punitive policies based on this concept,…

onto the streets, instigating the inevitable direction of a criminal future and also causing the increase of juvenile criminal behaviours. Other causes are as such; parental neglect and drunkenness, irresponsibility, decreasing respect for order, and breaking off the old traditions (Maguire, Morgan, Reiner, 2002). The mindset of British adults towards children in the nineteenth century was tremendously harsh, the common opinion about a child’s age and their classification as a juvenile…

It is not the easiest to find something good to do with a dollar. You can’t even buy anything at the Dollar Tree because with tax, you are spending $1.07. You could buy a Ricker’s soda, I guess, but that’s not really going to make an impact on anyone’s life. With my dollar, I decided to exchange it for one hundred pennies at Payless. Why would I want a hundred pennies? Well, I took those hundred pennies and spread them all across Muncie, Indiana while I was at shopping on Friday. I put all the…
