In the story we see that Mr. and Mrs. Adams suggested to the Old Man Warner, who is the oldest man in the village that some other villages have already stopped this tradition. Then Warner said “…………. We’d all be eating stewed chickweed and acorns. There’s always been a lottery” (Jackson 246). Old Man Warner keeps strong belief in superstition. That’s why he wants the tradition of lottery to be continued. But this unlawful tradition should be stopped so that no one has to sacrifice their lives anymore. In our country, we have a lot of traditional Muslim festivals. One of them is Ashura, which we practice on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Muharram. This is a tradition of commemorating the death of Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Every year on the day of Ashura, the people of certain community beat themselves with chained blades in the street as Imam Hussain was martyred on that day. They pay their respects to Imam Hussain with the flowing of their blood. I do respect the religion Islam and Imam Hussain as well. But this tradition of flowing blood is meaningless. This is not the way to show respect. This superstition should be erased from those communities to stop this tradition of flowing blood. Different religions have different rules and regulations.
