The students at my local school almost all had been either immigrants themselves or had parents who were immigrants and only spoke Spanish. Because all three generations my grandmother, my mother and I all grew up the majority of our lives in this very same neighborhood I would say with regards to my community I have strong ties. As far as traditions my family celebrates, both major “American” and “Dominican” holiday and important events. For example with regards to American traditions we celebrate: New Years, Memorial Day, Christmas, Thanks Giving, Halloween and much more, and with regards to Dominican traditions we celebrate: Fathers day, Mothers day, Semana Santa (Holy week). Similarly, meaningful holiday such as Mother’s Day or Father’s Day will become a confusion, “I do not want to vilify Mother’s Day as transphobic or chide basic chivalry as wrongful…

My First Mother’s Day I stood with pride as the youth passed out the mother’s day plant at the end of Sacrament meeting. It was my right to accept this small token and I was delighted it was finally my turn. All I had ever wanted was to have children. I felt that my husband Travis and I, had done everything we should. We had been married in the temple, active in church and serving in our callings, paid our tithing, and even served our time in the nursery on several occasions. It had been almost…

One of the occasions that we always love to celebrate is Mother's day, this is because we are living far from our Mom who's been with us all the way even after we had our own living.
