    This was the Bosnian Herzegovina genocide. During the Bosnian genocide, approximately 7-8,000 muslims were killed. The reason why this genocide and civil war occurred was because of the past tensions between Serbia and Bosnia. Types of tensions that occurred was territoriality and ethnic tensions. Before the tensions between Bosnia and Serbia, they were united as Yugoslavia in the 1980’s and 90’s. They dealt with ethnic conflicts, communist policies, and and economic instability. Because of this, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Bosnia declared independence from Yugoslavia (Serbia). However, these nations contained four different ethnic groups. The four main groups were Bosnian Muslims, Serbs, Croatians, and Yugoslavs. But when Bosnia was an independent state, Serbia declared war on Serbia as the newly independent states fought for land and resource control.
