I appreciated it a lot. ” In 1976, Shirley started to think about going to Liberia to help with missionaries. In 1976, Shirley took back her name Shirley Kolmer. She had also applied to become a fulbright fellowship to teach at University of Liberia. The University of Liberia and the United States State Department accepted her to teach. She began her brand news mission in the year of 1977. In June of 1978, Shirley was going to the convent in Gardnersville from her apartment in Monrovia. She had news for the sisters that she would be returning to the United States to become a Provincial at the Ruma convent of the Adorers of the blood of Christ. She would succeed Irene McGrath because she had already served the maximum amount of terms that a Provincial could serve. Sister Anne Irose was suppose to become Provincial, but her held could not hold up, so Shirley was picked. On August 15, 1978, Shirley was now the Provincial Superior of the Ruma Province of the Blood of Christ. Even though she was not in Liberia, it was always close to her heart.
