I made the decision in high school to become a lawyer, but experiences in college motivated the decision to want to become a prosecutor. Though I did not know much, what I did know was that my sense of right and wrong that infuriated my relatives whenever I called them out for speeding or saying something without having any evidence to back it up, were clear indicators of where I was going to end up. During my time on the College 's Mock Trial Team, I realized exactly what type of lawyer I wanted to be. I joined my school 's Mock Trial Team having absolutely no experience with what mock trial was and only had my confidence with public speaking as a primary skill to rely on. It was not until my first trial that I realized how much I loved the courtroom and while some people could not stand the upwards of three hour trials, I could not have been more enthralled. The first opportunity I received to perform as an attorney I did it with almost no preparation, with a group of witnesses that I had just met. It equated to jumping in the deep end considering…

My junior year of high school was the busiest year of my education, especially when I joined school programs like the mock trial. It all happened during a beautiful evening at Rancho Cucamonga Supreme Court, where I had to present my first mock trail case in front of the judge. My colleagues Mariana, Greg, and Rosa were in my team for that evening representing the suspect in the case. Our client was facing three counts for possession of drugs. My goal for that evening was to drop the two major…

Mock Trial Reflection In preparation for doing the mock trial, our group really tried to understand both what was happening in the minds of the lawyers and the witnesses. Those who were trying to be prosecutors had a bit of a harder time trying to be like a real lawyer. Even being a witness, like myself, it was a somewhat difficult feat. This task was even harder considering I was supposed to play a psychologist, Dr. Alex Richards in the Chris Archer trial. You have to know how to answer the…

The mock trial in which I participated as a juror was derived from the riveting novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. The premise of this novel was a black man named Tom Robinson being accused of raping a white woman known as Mayella Ewell. As a jury member in the mock trial, it was my job to identify the evidence presented by the defense and prosecution teams and discuss with the other jury members whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty. Through being a jury member, and being placed in a…

accept the possibility, even when disproven by facts, that they could be wrong. People typically argue with feelings and beliefs without supporting their argument, but I was raised to dispute points differently. My parents taught me that nothing is more effective in an argument than the facts themselves. That lesson has always stuck with me. When I was younger, I realized that this it was what lawyers do; they present cases based upon factual evidence. As a kid I used to watch movies that…
