I was sitting in my bunk looking at my girlfriends Polaroid that she had sent me a few months ago. As I was looking Chuck asked me, “how is she doing?” Frankly I didn’t know I hadn’t talked to her in years this is something that she sent to my parents after she left me because she was getting lonely while I was away at war. “Yeah, she’s...good,” I replied uncertainly. “Well that is good,” he replied. While I was looking at her picture I hear gun fire. Then *BOOM* a torpedo hits the port side of the ship, I am sent flying out of my bunk Chuck was sent flying also but he hit harder because he was on the top of the bunk. “What the hell was that,” Chuck exclaimed. “I don’t know Chuck, but it didn’t sound good,” I replied. I then got up and went to the door, as soon as I opened the door I saw fire and smoke. I then said to Chuck “Chuck, man, we have got to get out of here!” I didn’t hear a reply so I went back into the bunk to see him sitting there packing supplies. “What are you doing, what do we need all that for,” I asked him. He then replied “You never know what you will need until you need it.” “Well hurry up we need to get top side,” I said post haste. The reason that I say this is because we had come across some beams that had fallen, but he was able to push it out of the way so that we could get top side. We then got to the deck of the California and saw all…
