The era that Michelangelo Antonioni belonged to was a time where filmmaking was considered as a type of art that consisted of contemporary ideas and techniques just like any other fine art. During the 1960s, big name filmmakers worldwide began to experiment with more formal techniques as well as adopted new methods to narrate, which basically extended the perceptions of cinema for audiences in various ways.
